Popular sports in Guinea

Despite their financial position, sports in Guinea are very popular. One of the most popular is soccer. Children often go out after school and play with their friends, sometimes in the middle of the street. Other popular sports in Guinea are Taekwondo, a martial art, and basketball.

Great Athletes

There have been many great athletes to come out of Guinea, or who are of Guinean descent. One of the most famous is Paul Pogba, a soccer player for the Spanish soccer club, Juventus. Paul Pogba was born in France, but both of his parents are Guinean. He has two brothers, who are also soccer players for the Guinean National Team. Another great athlete to come out of Guinea is basketball player, Mamadi Diakite. He was born in Guinea, but his family moved to the U.S. soon after he was born. He played basketball at the University of Virginia, and won a NCAA national championship with them. He currently plays for the New York Knicks, but he won a NBA chamionshop with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2021.
